Ian Bateman (Trombone - UK)

The last couple of years have been quite amazing ones for Ian. In early 2011 he formed The Bateman Brothers Jazz Band with trumpeter brother Alan, with a tribute show to Louis Armstrong and his All-Stars. The authenticity is quite remarkable and before they did any gigs they went straight to the recording studio. The result was their debut CD 'Now You Has Jazz' which was subsequently voted #1 in the 2011 British Jazz Awards by the jazz-going public. The band's datelist is filling up quite rapidly and ensures a great future for one of the UK's finest jazz trombonists

Ian continues to perform all over Europe with Acker Bilk and his Paramount Jazz Band, The Back To Basie Orchestra and as a deputy in many of the other top name jazz bands and orchestra on the UK circuit. He also leads the five-trombone supergroup The Bone Supremacy. He is also currently embarked on a mission to bring back the bebop music of JJ Johnson and Frank Rosolino from the 50's and 60's, which he has performed at the Norwich Jazz Party in the past with Scott Robinson. Ian's versatility on the trombone allows him to switch styles with ease. One night he'll be emulating Trummy Young with his Louis show and the next he'll be playing the music of JJ Johnson and Frank Rosolino, a completely different genre!
