Welcome to the Norwich Jazz Party web site.
2015 will see our second visit to Dunston Hall for what will be the ninth Norwich Jazz Party
Although the lineup is not yet complete we have assembled an excellent list of performers from both sides of the Atlantic with some new faces plus many who will be familiar to our regulars. Making their NJP debut with be Champian Fulton from New York and Amy Roberts from St. Ives, Cornwall. Champian is a first rate singer and pianist who regularly appears at venues such as Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola and the Garage in New York as well as Festivals in France, Israel and other places throughout the world. Amy, having graduated in 2011 from the Royal Northern College of Music with First Class Honours has been a regular member of the reed section of the Big Chris Barber Band, The Magnificent 7, (with Ian Bateman) as well as her own Quintet. She was winner of the Rising Star Category of the British Jazz Awards in 2009 and 2011. We are looking forward to welcoming these two outstanding musicians to Norwich next May.
Returning after their debuts in 2014 will be Aurélie Tropez, Ehud Asherie and Robert Fowler who made a great impression over the weekend.
Having missed the 2014 Party we are very pleased to be able welcome back Nicki Parrott whose bass playing is an asset to any group she plays with as well as her vocal talents.
As you will see from the cast list the above sextet will be joined by many favourites including Ken Peplowski, Jon-Erik Kellso, and Houston Person from across the pond and Karen Sharp, Alan Barnes and Enrico Tomasso from this side of the water.
One special additional item will be having aset performed during the normal weekend programme which will feature the quartet of local musicians who have provided the musical base for the Friday night jam sessions over the years with guests from our cast list. This is in response to requests from those who have enjoyed the jam sessions.
There are still some vacancies in the cast list and negotiations are continuing to bring more jazz stars to Norwich! Watch this space...
The venue, Dunston Hall Hotel is a jewel in the crown of De Vere Hotels. Housed originally in an Elizabethan-style mansion built in 1859 and set in 150 acres of wooded parkland the hotel now has over 150 bedrooms mainly in modern but very sympathetically designed extensions. As well as a very well equipped fitness centre and swimming pool there is a 6275 yard, par 71, USGA rated golf course plus a driving range and football pitch amongst the leisure facilities.
Running from 3pm on Saturday 2nd May until after midnight on Monday 4th May with sets lasting from 30 to 50 minutes there will be musical variety from solo spots to large ensembles with our guest musicians making the decisions as to what the audience will hear. A formula which has worked for eight years and does not need any alteration. As in previous years the music sessions will run from 3pm until 6.30pm and 8.30pm to 12.30am on Saturday and 12noon to 6.30pm and 8.30pm to 12.30am Sunday and Monday leaving a two hour break for dinner which either be obtained in the hotel restaurant or elsewhere.
For those arriving early there will be the usual jam session on Friday evening with the local Simon Brown Quartet which will give everyone the opportunity to hear some of our musician guests in an informal setting as well as giving the chance for any musicians amongst the audience to display their skills.
Above all we try to foster a party atmosphere throughout with the emphasis being on enjoying the music and the general ambiance. If you would like to join the Party please let us know by getting in touch.
