Welcome to the Norwich Jazz Party web site.

We have a new venue and the Line-up for 2014 is now complete with some new faces and many familiar friends!

Dunston Hall HotelReturning after their 2013 debut are Jacob Fischer from Denmark and Ron Hockett. Jacob’s playing was a delight throughout the weekend and there will plenty more of the same next May with more duets with Bucky Pizzarelli. Ron, who is now a Norwich resident after 29 years in the U.S. Marine band and 9 years with Jim Cullum’s band in San Antonio, Texas played a couple of sets in 2013, including with the finale big band. In 2014 he will be with us for the entire weekend on both clarinet and alto sax.

Also returning but after a gap of a couple of years is the ever popular multi-instrumentalist from New York, Scott Robinson, who will no doubt add plenty of musical colour throughout the weekend.

There will be four newcomers as well.
Kristin KorbKristin Korb is a singing double bassist with a deep sense of swing and combines the instrumental influence of Ray Brown and Charles Mingus with the vocal styling of Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald to create a sound all her own. An American, Kristin is now lives in Denmark and is making a big name for herself on the European scene.
Ehud Asherie is an Israeli born pianist now based in New York where he regularly plays with Harry Allen, Jane Monheit, Eric Alexander and others and is a regular at Smalls Jazz Club.
From France comes Aurelie Tropez a very versatile clarinet and saxophone player who has visited the UK several times particularly to play at the Whitley Bay Jazz Festival and Party.
Our new name from the UK is Robert Fowler who will be familiar to most of our audience having been on the British scene for a number of years. During the weekend he will present a set of the big band arrangements of the Gerry Mulligan Concert Jazz Band by a truly star-studded cast.

Dunston Hall Sunningdale SuiteThe new venue, Dunston Hall Hotel is a jewel in the crown of De Vere Hotels. Housed originally in an Elizabethan-style mansion built in 1859 and set in 150 acres of wooded parkland the hotel now has over 150 bedrooms mainly in modern but very sympathetically designed extensions. As well as a very well equipped fitness centre and swimming pool there is a 6275 yard, par 71, USGA rated golf course plus a driving range and football pitch amongst the leisure facilities.

We have again managed to put together a cast of top ranked musicians who will provide the audience with over 26 hours of finest mainstream jazz sounHouston Personds. As you will see we have a new venue for the performances but we are certain that everyone will be able to see and hear every note played. The room also boasts a bar selling real ale from a local Norwich brewery.

Running from 3pm on Saturday 3rd May until after midnight on Monday 5th May with sets lasting from 30 to 50 minutes there will be musical variety from solo spots to large ensembles with our guest musicians making the decisions as to what the audience will hear. A formula
which has worked for seven years and does not need any alteration. As in previous years the music sessions will run from 3pm until 6.30pm and 8.30pm to 12.30am on Saturday and 12noon to 6.30pm and 8.30pm to 12.30am Sunday and Monday leaving a two hour break for dinner which either be obtained in the hotel restaurant or elsewhere.

For those arriving early there will be a jam session on Friday evening in in the lobby bar area lead by an excellent local quartet which will give everyone the opportunity to hear some of our musicians guests in an informal setting as well as giving the chance for any musicians amongst the audience to display their skills.

Above all we try to foster a party atmosphere throughout with the emphasis being on enjoying the music and the general ambiance. If you would like to join the Party please let us know by getting in touch.
